Bridging the Gap

Currently in the U.S. the twenty richest people own more wealth than the bottom 50% of Americans combined. Social science scholarship demonstrates the ways in which increasing inequality

  • contributes to political polarization,
  • diminishes economic growth,
  • weakens social bonds and wellbeing, and
  • undermines democracy.

Yet, in many ways, class and economic hardship remains invisible in the U.S.  The goal of this project is to focus public attention on the chasm between the rich and poor in the U.S. through storytelling and the arts. It uses empathy and community building to mend the toxic and polarizing public discourse that the widening economic gap has produced.

We invite you to share your story and give voice to economic inequality.
